Tarrasmart was founded in 2013 by Cristianto Rian Tarra in Makassar, South Sulawesi. As a university student, Cris and his team built an online radio and television streaming application that quickly climbed to the #1 entertainment app in Indonesia on both Google Play and the App Store.
But as user behavior shifted toward on-demand platforms like YouTube and Spotify, the team made a bold pivot. They shut down the consumer app and rebuilt Tarrasmart as an AI software company focused on B2B solutions for broadcasters and industrial enterprises.
That pivot proved transformative. Tarrasmart went on to win international awards, serve clients in 6 countries, and in March 2023, was acquired by a multinational company. Proof that great technology companies can come from anywhere.
